Baija Bai, widow of Maharaja Daulat Rao Sindhia, ruled as regent of Gwalior between 1827–1833 AD. A politically astute leader, she safeguarded the Scindia dynasty’s power during turbulent years under increasing British influence.
Despite Mughal decline, coins were struck in Akbar II’s name, preserving legitimacy. The inclusion of Nagari “Shri” and floral motifs signified Gwalior’s Maratha identity, blending Mughal suzerainty with local assertion.
